Noel Gallagher tried to convince Alessandro Del Piero to join Manchester City

Del Piero: 'Gallagher wanted me to join City'

Former Italy international Alessandro Del Piero has revealed that former Oasis singer Noel Gallagher tried to convince the striker to move to Manchester City in the summer.

Del Piero opted to leave Juventus after 19 seasons at the club and despite reported interest from Liverpool, the 37-year-old chose to switch to Australian outfit Sydney FC.

"Noel called me maybe once a day to go to Manchester City and every time I say something like, 'Noel, can we talk about this tomorrow?'" The Sun quotes Del Piero as saying.

"He's a lovely guy and I spend a lot of time with him to see the concerts. I think the Oasis song 'Wonderwall' maybe is one of the most beautiful songs."

The High Flying Birds singer is believed to have struck up a friendship with the Italian star in recent years.
