Hillsborough survivor meets Liverpool stars

A Hillsborough survivor was invited to meet the Liverpool players and manager Brendan Rodgers while on their pre-season tour in Australia after writing a letter to the club.

Dave Cunningham, who is based in the country, and his wife Cher mingled with the players, including captain Steven Gerrard, at the team hotel in Melbourne.

"I've never asked Liverpool for anything, despite living in Anfield and having a season ticket," Dave told the club's official website.

"I just threw caution to the wind and sent an email asking if my wife could meet one of the players."

"I've still got the scars where the skin came off my hip bones and I'm still on painkillers every day for my back. It's still tough. Not just for me, a lot of people."

The Reds supporter was also taken to watch a training session alongside former players Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush.
