Convicted former drug dealer Stephen French has revealed that he used his "media connection" to get VIP seats for Liverpool's midweek Capital One Cup match against Bournemouth.

The notorious criminal, who was once known as 'The Devil', was spotted on TV cameras sitting next to Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho at Anfield watching the Reds' 1-0 win in the fourth round of the competition on Wednesday.

According to The Mirror, after talk of his attendance at the game went viral, French wrote on Facebook: "I will never apologise for using my media connection to attain an allocated seat in the box to watch Jurgen Klopp win his first home game - something I dreamed of when I was I locked down. I loved it.

"From sweat box to director box in nine [months], only The FrenchMan can do shit like that."

French was released from a three-year prison sentence earlier this year.
