The family of the teenage girl who Jamie Carragher spat on has urged Sky Sports not to sack the football pundit.

Video footage emerged from over the weekend of the former Liverpool defender spitting in the direction of a Manchester United fan and his 14-year-old daughter while in his car.

In the clip, the United fan rolled down the window of the passenger seat, where his daughter was sitting, and taunted Carragher about Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

In response, Carragher aimed at the car with his spit, which ended up hitting the forehead of the teenage girl and then he sped off in his Range Rover.

Sky Sports has suspended the 40-year-old, and he has apologised various times on live television.

Now, according to The Mirror, the teenager's parents have insisted that they do not want Carragher to be axed from his punditry role.

The youngster's 42-year-old father said: "We don't want him to lose his job. It is not about that. We wanted an apology and explanation. He seems contrite. Everyone makes mistakes, we are all human."

"He did seem extremely sorry," his wife added.

Carragher's Sky colleague Gary Neville has also backed the disgraced star to keep his job.
