Pep Guardiola furious at 'people of Liverpool' for attack on Manchester City team bus

Pep Guardiola slams the security measures which led to the Manchester City team bus being attacked by Liverpool fans ahead of their big Champions League game at Anfield.

Pep Guardiola has criticised the security arrangements which led to the Manchester City team bus being attacked by Liverpool fans ahead of their big Champions League game at Anfield.

The coach was pelted with bottles, missiles and smoke bombs as it made its way to the stadium, rendering the vehicle unfit for purpose for the journey back to Manchester.

Guardiola highlighted the Borussia Dortmund bus bombing last April as testament to why security should be better for any club contingent travelling on public roads for games.

"Yesterday you explained, I am new here, that it is going to happen," Guardiola told BT Sport. "Normally when the police know it is going to happen, they tried to avoid it from happening.

"So I did not expect that from the Liverpool side, their people. One year ago something happened in Dortmund so we come here to play football and I don't understand this kind of situation.

"The bus is destroyed but I did not expect a prestigious club like Liverpool doing this kind of thing. It is not Liverpool, it is the people, but hopefully it does not happen again."

Liverpool issued a statement apologising to Man City for the bus attack prior to the game, which finished 3-0 to the hosts.
