Report: Italian team plane struck by lightning

The plane carrying the Italian national football team has reportedly been struck by lightning.

The jet was carrying the squad to Switzerland for their international friendly against Brazil tomorrow evening when it was hit by the bolt just outside Geneva earlier today, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

After the plane had touched down on Swiss soil, Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio tweeted: "Beautiful plane scare today! We are now in a hotel in Geneva, tomorrow big challenge with Brazil."

While no further details have been released, it has been reported that nobody on board was hurt.
