Leigh Griffiths denies shoplifting charge

Griffiths denies shoplifting charge

Hibernian striker Leigh Griffiths has denied reports that he has been charged with shoplifting after an incident at a Tesco store in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Griffiths was reportedly arrested and charged on suspicion of shoplifting after being questioned inside a supermarket in the Corstophine area of the Scottish capital.

The 22-year-old has insisted on the social networking site that the incident was simply a misunderstanding.

He tweeted: "Not been caught shoplifting at all! Lot of bull****! So you's can all take your rumours to f***!"

Hibs released a statement today to confirm that they are aware one of their players is the subject of a police investigation.

The statement read: "The club is aware of an alleged incident which took place on Saturday afternoon involving the player.

"This is now a police matter."

The on-loan forward shrugged off the incident to play for Hibs today in a goalless draw against Aberdeen.
