Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski took the opportunity to grab a photo with German chancellor Angela Merkel after the national side defeated Portugal at the World Cup.

Germany opened their Group G campaign in Brazil with a convincing 4-0 victory over Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates at the Arena Fonte Nova.

Merkel, who has attended numerous matches to support Germany, joined the players in the dressing room after the game to pose for photos with the team.
