Republic of Ireland Under-21 captain Shane Duffy admits he is wary that he could face punishment from Everton boss David Moyes over a controversial IRA tweet.

Republic of Ireland Under-21 defender Shane Duffy has admitted that Everton manager David Moyes could punish him over a recent Twitter controversy.

The 21-year-old has maintained that he did not retweet a message saying "Up the RA!" after it appeared on his personal account.

"I don't know yet what, if anything, will happen from it," the Irish Independent quotes Duffy as saying. "I haven't really spoken to [Moyes] about it yet, only to some people at the club. We'll probably discuss it when I go back.

"Everyone knows it wasn't me sending those tweets. I've apologised for someone using my Twitter. He's taken my phone and it's got me into trouble. I've nothing more to say as it will make more out of it. I'll just have to deal with it."

The centre-back has come through the ranks at Goodison Park.
