Stolen Europa League trophy returned

The Europa League trophy has been returned to UEFA after "being stolen" in Mexico.

The cup was swiped at a sponsor's event in Leon on Friday, only to be reclaimed the following day.

The offence took place ahead of the competition's semi-finals next week, but UEFA has confirmed that the silverware has returned unscathed.

"Europa League trophy was in Mexico for a partner event and got briefly stolen," UEFA stated.

"It was quickly recovered and has suffered no damages."

The trophy will be awarded to either Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Marseille or Red Bull Salzburg after the final in Lyon.
