Real Madrid, Chelsea game to be abandoned?

Real Madrid, Chelsea game to be abandoned?

Tonight's International Champions Cup game between Real Madrid and Chelsea could be abandoned at the last minute over fears of flash flooding and lightning in Michigan.

The area around the Michigan Stadium has already been hit with heavy rainfall - reported to be up to three inches - leading up to the fixture, which is due to kick off at 8.05pm BST this evening.

Further storms are expected as the match approaches, and according to The Telegraph, any reports of lightning in the area will immediately lead to the fixture being cancelled.

If the game does not go ahead, it will be the second abandonment to hit the ICC tournament in the space of five days after Monday's match between Manchester United and Manchester City in Beijing was cancelled due to rainstorms.

United manager Jose Mourinho berated the "very bad" state of the pitch at the Bird's Nest Stadium, claiming that "these are not conditions to play a good game of football".
