Celta Vigo fined for low attendances

La Liga has fined Celta Vigo for failing to meet minimum attendance requirements at their first two home games of the season.

Under the league's rules, clubs must ensure that at least 70% of seats are filled during league games or be issued with a financial penalty.

According to Marca, the first home game with Real Sociedad drew just 16,961 fans while the following game with Alaves had an attendance of 17,384.

The Balaidos has an official capacity of 29,000, meaning that the respective attendances of 58% and 60% capacity were well below the threshold.

Celta's next home game is against Getafe on Thursday night and, with lower attendances expected in general for midweek fixtures, the club have responded by slashing ticket prices to just €15 (£13), or €10 (£9) for under-25s.
