Defending champions Canada up and running

Canada have got their gold medal defence up and running after defeating Norway 3-1 in the men's hockey tournament.

The first period ended scoreless in an evenly matched contest before Shea Weber got the breakthrough for the event favourites, scoring six minutes after the restart.

Jamie Benn scored the second of the contest with 15 minutes on the clock to give the Canadians a 2-0 advantage.

It took just 22 seconds into the third period for Norway to get off the mark, with Patrick Thoresen scoring to leave the gold medal holders feeling nervous.

Drew Doughty ended any hopes of a comeback by adding a third a minute later, getting Canada off to a winning start as they look to win their first Olympic gold outside of North American since the 1952 Games in Oslo.
