Watson named US Ryder Cup vice-captain

Bubba Watson has been named as Team USA's fifth vice-captain for this week's Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.

Captain Davis Love III selects the 37-year-old for the role after he missed out on a place in the 12-man team, despite being the current world number seven.

Watson joins Tom Lehman, Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods on Love's advisory panel as Team USA look to win the competition for the first time since 2008.

Team USA's team comprises Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jimmy Walker, Brooks Koepka, Brandt Snedeker, Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, JB Holmes and rookie Ryan Moore.

The action gets underway in Minnesota on Friday with foursomes and fourballs.
