Couples "not bitter" about Ryder Cup snub

Fred Couples has insisted that he bears no resentment towards Davis Love III after he was given a second chance at captaining the USA Ryder Cup team.

Love was this week confirmed as skipper for the 2016 tournament at Hazeltine, having previously led America when they famously surrendered a 10-4 lead to lose to Europe in Medinah three years ago.

Couples had been tipped for the role should the PGA Tour appoint a first-time captain, but their 11-man task force opted for Love and a supportive Couples believes that they have gone with a "great guy".

He said at Love's unveiling on Tuesday: "I was in Chicago (Medinah) with Davis, he did a phenomenal job. I'm not bitter or upset or anything like that because, in my opinion, they picked a great guy."

The popular 1992 Masters champion has played in five Ryder Cups, winning either side of his triumph at Augusta.
