Greg Chalmers claims Australian Open lead at close of round two

Chalmers claims Australian Open lead

Greg Chalmers is in the lead at the Australian Open following the second day of action in Sydney.

The 41-year-old, who has won the tournament twice before, carded a five-under-par round of 66 to top the standings.

Defending champion Rory McIlroy appears to still be battling with jet-lag issues, having moved within one stroke of the lead, sitting alongside Adam Crawford with both men recording two-under 69s.

World number one McIlroy recorded five pars, while his rather mixed round also featured an eagle, six birdies and six bogeys.

Jordan Spieth led the way following the opening day's play at the Australian Golf Course, but he dropped off the pace slightly to two shots behind at three under.

In all, 16 players ended round two within five shots of leader Chalmers to set up a fascinating session tomorrow.
