Bubba Watson takes lead at The Barclays

Bubba Watson has taken the outright lead at The Barclays after reaching seven-under-par on day two at Plainfield Country Club.

The two-time Masters winner earned a share of the lead on Thursday and he continued his fine form with four birdies in a second-round 68 to move one shot clear of the field.

Jordan Spieth stole the headlines for the wrong reasons as he carded a 73 to drop back to seven-over to miss the cut.

The disappointing performance from the 22-year-old means that he will lose his status as world number one to Rory McIlroy after just one event at the top of the rankings.

Zach Johnson struck a bogey-free 66 to join three other players on six-under, with Henrik Stenson, Tony Finau and Jason Dufner also one shot behind Watson.

A missed putt on the final hole prevented Dufner from joining Watson at the top of the leaderboard at the halfway stage.
