Kaymer wins The Players Championship

Martin Kaymer has won The Players Championship in Florida with a one-shot victory over Jim Furyk.

The 29-year-old shot a final round of one-under 71, which was enough for him to secure the title despite suffering from a 90-minute delay due to bad weather.

Kaymer was on course to secure the championship before the delay with 10 pars and three birdies, but when he re-emerged the German double-bogeyed the 15th to allow Furyk a glimmer of hope.

However, Kaymer managed to hole a 30ft putt on the 17th to ease the pressure on himself and left him needing only a par on the 18th, which he holed with ease to win the title on 13-under for the tournament.

Furyk finished second on 12-under after recording a six-under 66 in his final round, while Sergio Garcia placed third on 11-under.
