Holmes wins Houston Open after playoff

JB Holmes has won the Shell Houston Open title after seeing off Jackson Wagner and Jordan Spieth in a playoff.

Holmes had thrust himself back into contention with a round of 64, which included seven birdies in the opening nine holes to finish on 16-under-par, alongside Spieth and Wagner.

However, the 2008 Ryder Cup player was almost left to rue a dropped shot on the 16th, which cost him outright victory at the GC of Houston.

Wagner had looked set to fall short before a birdie at the last hole saw him into a three-way playoff.

Spieth, who led after three rounds, fired a steady 70, but was eliminated at first extra hole, after a bogey on the 18th.

Holmes eventually emerged victorious after Wagner dropped a shot on the second playoff hole.
