Jim Herman earns place at The Masters with victory in Shell Houston Open

Herman into Masters with win in Houston

Jim Herman has earned a place in The Masters for the first time in his career after winning the Shell Houston Open by one shot on Sunday.

The 38-year-old, whose last professional win was six years ago at the Moonah Classic in Australia, claimed a crucial birdie on the 16th hole before shooting pars on the last two holes.

Herman finished with a four-under-par 68 in the final round, bringing his overall total to 15-under, one shot above Henrik Stenson, who missed an 18-foot birdie putt on the 18th.

Dustin Johnson finished third after bouncing back from a double bogey on the 11th hole, while world number two Jordan Spieth, who will defend his Masters crown at Augusta later this week, ended tied-13th in the field.

The 22-year-old dropped shots on the 11th and 12th holes and picked up a double bogey on the final hole.
