McIlroy "overslept" before US PGA final round

Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy has admitted that he "overslept" before the final round of his US PGA Championship victory at the weekend.

McIlroy shot a final-round 66 to finish on 13-under, a full eight shots clear of the rest, and the 23-year-old has revealed that he had to be woken by his father in order to make the tee.

"Something that people don't know is that I went back home," Eurosport quotes McIlroy as saying.

"Everyone was talking about how I showed back up about half an hour before my tee time on the last day. I actually took a nap and my dad had to come wake me up because I overslept."

The weekend's victory was McIlroy's second major after winning the US Open last year.
