Rory McIlroy 'has £8m out-of-court settlement offer rejected'

Rory McIlroy will appear in court today over a legal dispute with Horizon Sports, after he reportedly failed with an £8m 'out-of-court settlement offer.

Rory McIlroy has had an £8m out-of-court settlement offer rejected by Horizon Sports, according to reports.

The Northern Irish golfer will appear in court today as he sues his former agency, who are in turn suing him, over unpaid fees.

Horizon Sports believe that they have a contract with McIlroy which entitles them to 15-20% of his endorsement money until 2017, which McIlroy denies. The Daily Mail suggests that the court case will go ahead, despite the current Open champion's efforts to stop it.

"I have it on decent authority that McIlroy offered €10m (£8m) to settle out of court with Horizon Sports and its owner, Conor Ridge, and end what the world No 1 described himself as a 'tedious and nasty business'," wrote Derek Lawrenson.

"But Ridge, with his reputation at stake, appears determined to have his day, or rather his several weeks, in court."

McIlroy hasn't allowed the case to hurt his golf, as he won the Dubai Desert Classic yesterday.
