European golfer Catriona Matthew: 'USA are clear favourites'

Matthew: 'Europe are Solheim Cup underdogs'

Eight-time European Solheim Cup team member Catriona Matthew has said that she believes Europe are underdogs for the title, despite winning the last two tournaments.

Ten of America's 12-woman team are in the world's Top 40, while Europe only have three.

"They are favourites," Scotland's Matthew told reporters. "They pretty much every year go in as the bookmakers' favourites.

"We just try to enjoy it. Obviously you enjoy it more if you win but we've been lucky in the last couple, we just need to go out there and give it our best."

The female version of the Ryder Cup begins this morning in Germany, with USA leading the overall series since the biennial tournament began in 1990 with eight wins to five.
