Dustin Johnson moves ahead of Rory McIlroy in world rankings

Dustin Johnson's win at the US Open sees him move into third position in the World Golf Rankings, with Rory McIlroy down to fourth for the first time in two years.

Rory McIlroy has dropped outside of the top three in the World Golf Rankings for the first time in two years as a result of Dustin Johnson's victory at the US Open.

The American defied huge controversy at Oakmont to win his first Major title by three shots, and his triumph has taken him into third position in the standings.

McIlory has been no lower than world number three since winning the Open Championship in 2014 and he faces a battle to remain among the sport's elite as he prepares to defend ranking points accumulated at that tournament, as well as victories at the Bridgestone Invitational and the USPGA Championship.

Branden Grace and Sergio Garcia are closing in on the top 10 after finishing in a share of fifth place in Pennsylvania, while joint runner-up Shane Lowry has improved 16 places to sit in 25th position.

Andrew Landry - who led the tournament on several occasions across the four days - moves from 624 to 379 after ending the competition in a tie for 15th spot.
