Luke Donald admits that his aspiration for 2012 is to win the first major tournament of his career.

World number one Luke Donald has claimed that winning his first major tournament is his main priority for the year ahead.

Donald enjoyed a successful 2011, finishing top of the money lists on the PGA and European Tours.

The Englishman said: "Obviously the goal every year is to try and win the biggest events and those are the majors.

"Obviously having had a year like I did last year, I did everything but win a major in a way. That would be the top of my goals - to try and win a major. But to do that you have to put yourself in contention."

Donald is currently preparing to compete in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
