Sam Burns wins his third PGA Tour title of the season in style, holding a monster putt in a playoff with Scottie Scheffler to win the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Burns started the day seven shots off the top of the leaderboard and down in 16th place, but a round of 65 was the best showing of the day as the wind picked up during the closing hours.

Scheffler, the world number one, holed a number of testing par putts down the stretch to force a playoff, but he watched on powerlessly as Burns sent a fast putt off the fringe from 38 feet into the hole to claim the title.

Brendon Todd had to settle for third position after a final-round 71, with Tony Finau among three players to finish one shot further adrift in a share of fourth.

Mito Pereira responded to his heartbreak at the US PGA Championship by sharing 7th spot alongside the likes of Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed.

Meanwhile, Scotland's Russell Knox was in 15th position, with Tommy Fleetwood the best of the English contingent in 35th place.
