Rory McIlroy: 'I will retire happy if I win The Masters and complete Grand Slam'

Rory McIlroy says that he can "retire happy" if he manages to win The Masters this week and complete a career Grand Slam.

World number three Rory McIlroy has admitted that he can "retire happy" if he manages to win The Masters at Augusta this week.

Should the Northern Irishman earn the green jacket on Sunday, he will complete a career Grand Slam following wins at the US Open, the PGA Championship and The Open.

The 26-year-old, who won his last Major in 2014, faces competition from defending champion Jordan Spieth and world number one Jason Day.

"If I can win a green jacket and become just the sixth player in history to win a Grand Slam, then I would retire happy knowing I have joined an exclusive list," BBC Sport quotes McIlroy as saying.

"Every year I go to Augusta and haven't won, the pressure will build and build. Hopefully I can get that little monkey off my back, and then I'd just free-wheel it after that."

McIlroy has been paired with Martin Kaymer and Bill Haas in the first two rounds of the event.
