Garcia: 'Jimenez's English could hurt captaincy hopes'

Ryder Cup veteran Sergio Garcia has said that fellow Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez's limited English could hamper his chances of becoming Europe's next Ryder Cup captain.

Jimenez is second-favourite to lead the European team at Hazeltine in 2016 behind odds-on favourite Darren Clarke.

When asked about who he thought would be appointed the next captain, Garcia, speaking ahead of the Turkish Airlines Open, said: "While Darren and Miguel are both good candidates I am just concerned for Miguel, and worried that his English is not good enough to deal with all the pressure that goes with being a European team captain.

"I know Miguel's been a good Ryder Cup player and he's also been a great Ryder Cup vice-captain but becoming a captain is different."

Jimenez, 50, recently admitted that he would love to captain Europe.

A five-man committee that includes the last three European captains - Paul McGinley, Jose Maria Olazabal and Colin Montgomerie - is expected to decide on the new captain early next year.
