Westwood, Poulter miss cut at Hoylake

Englishmen Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter were among the biggest names to fail to make the cut at the Open Championship at the Royal Liverpool club on Friday.

The two Ryder Cup stars recorded 36-hole scores of 147 to reach three-over-par after their second rounds at Hoylake and miss out on the weekend by one shot.

Reigning Masters champion Bubba Watson was a stroke worse off, with four bogeys on the back nine costing the American the chance to add a third Major to his resume.

Miguel Angel Jiminez, former winners Paul Lawrie and Ben Curtis, as well as Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington - both of whom have lifted the Claret Jug on two occasions - also fell foul of the two-over-par line.

Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy shot a second consecutive round of 66 to establish a four-shot lead on Merseyside, where former world number one Tiger Woods birdied the last to make the weekend.
