Ian Poulter hits first-round 72

Ian Poulter has hit a first-round 72 at the Open Championship in Muirfield after a mixed time on the course.

The Brit did not get off to the best start as he bogeyed the opening hole before steadying himself with a par on the second.

He responded well with three birdies from the next seven holes to put himself two-under by the start of the 10th hole.

However, three successive bogeys at the 14th, 15th and 16th undid his earlier good work and he finished with a round of 72.
