Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez leads the Open Championship at Muirhead on three-under-par after two rounds.

Miguel Angel Jimenez has taken the lead after the first two rounds at the Open Championship at Muirfield.

The Spaniard remains three-under after an even par round of 71 today, leaving him just one shot clear of world number one Tiger Woods, Sweden's Henrik Stenson, Englishman Lee Westwood and Dustin Johnson.

Overnight leader Zach Johnson looked like holding onto the top of the leaderboard for much of the day, but two bogeys and a double bogey inside the last five holes saw him drop to one-under par.

Johnson is tied for sixth, with Martin Laird, Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Angel Cabrera also two shots off the lead.

Reigning champion Ernie Els looks unlikely to defend his title, as back-to-back rounds of 74 have left him tied for 49th at the end of day two, nine shots back from Jimenez.

The amateur championship remains undecided, with Jimmy Mullen and Matthew Fitzpatrick both sitting on seven-under-par, which sees them safely make the cut.

However, several big names have missed the eight-over cut, including Luke Donald, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy and Sir Nick Faldo.
