Sebastian Vettel picks up his eighth pole position of the year at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel has secured his eighth pole position of the season ahead of the the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver finished 0.163 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton as he edged out his McLaren rival in qualifying at the Hungaroring.

The defending world champion said: "I felt much more comfortable in the car. I've got my confidence back."

Vettel's Red Bull teammate Mark Webber, who had a less successful time, will start Sunday's race in sixth place on the grid.

Webber won the Hungarian Grand Prix last year but struggled to match Vettel's pace this time, finishing more than a second behind the German.

"It's bizarre, there's no way I could do that lap time, no way," Webber said.

Webber is currently 77 points behind Vettel at the top of the World Drivers' Championship standings.
