Damon Hill doesn't understand problem with double points

Former Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill has reiterated his backing for the new double points rule for the final race of the season.

The new system, which was announced in December last year, gives drivers the chance to upset the title race following years of domination from Red Bull star Sebastian Vettel.

"If you go to Wimbledon and you are in a knockout competition it, then gets more crucial and more important the closer you get to the final, and the final is worth a lot more points than the first round," Hill told Sky Sports News.

"Personally, I don't see what the story is about. Winning the World Championship is the goal and if it gets more and more intense towards the end, and there is more at stake at the end of the championship, then that should be more exciting."

The 2014 campaign will get underway at the Australian Grand Prix on March 16.
