Hamilton: "The tyres are controlling everyone"

Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton has insisted that something must be done about the tyre issue in Formula 1 as they "are controlling everyone".

A whole host of drivers have recently complained about the Pirelli tyres, as well as Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz, who previously insisted that F1 was "not racing anymore" due to the need to the high maintenance of the fast-wearing Pirelli tyres.

Hamilton, who was recently lapped during the Spanish Grand Prix having started second on the grid, agrees that something needs to be done.

"I definitely don't think you should be able to be second on the grid and then get lapped," Hamilton told BBC Sport.

"But that's the name of the game at the moment. The tyres are controlling everyone and making it really hard to control."

The Monaco Grand Prix is the next race in the Formula 1 calendar and takes place on Sunday.
