Lewis Hamilton qualifies in pole position for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Lewis Hamilton has qualified in pole position for Sunday's Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

The 29-year-old was marginally quicker than Perth-born Red Bull star Daniel Ricciardo, who will start in second.

Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg completes the top three, while McLaren's Kevin Magnussen and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso are fourth and fifth respectively.

Sebastian Vettel will begin a race outside of the top ten for the first time since 2012 after failing to make Q3 earlier in the day.
