Hamilton "really happy" with qualifying

Lewis Hamilton was delighted with the way that he and his Mercedes team managed the wet conditions in Melbourne today.

The 2008 world champion qualified in pole position for Sunday's Australian Grand Prix, while Red Bull debutante Daniel Ricciardo impressed en route to securing second spot on the grid.

"It's been an interesting weekend," Hamilton told reporters. "Today it made it so much harder with the conditions, but I'm really happy for the job the team did.

"The new cars are harder to drive in the wet and it's the first time for me driving in these conditions - as I'm sure it is for a lot of other drivers.

"But to be up here is a great showing for the team. It's great for Ricciardo, too, in his first grand prix for Red Bull."

Ten of the last 20 Australian Grand Prix have been won by a British driver.
