Italian GP 'close to being saved'

The future of the Italian Grand Prix is reportedly secure after the country's government agreed a tax exemption for Monza.

After the German Grand Prix was placed in peril due to financial constraints, the Italian race also looked in danger of disappearing after its current contract with Formula 1 expires.

However, F1i.com claims that the event's future could be sealed after the central government included the grand prix in its list of exceptions for the national budget.

This comes after the Lombardy regional government offered a €70m (£51.95m) grant and became owners of the famous autodrome.
