Nico Hulkenberg to test Halo at Spa

Nico Hulkenberg will join Nico Rosberg in trying the Halo cockpit protection device in Friday practice.

Nico Rosberg will not be the only Formula 1 driver trying the Halo cockpit protection device in Friday practice.

It has emerged that the Force India of Nico Hulkenberg - an outed opponent of the safety-oriented concept - will also be using Halo at Spa-Francorchamps, ahead of its potential mandatory debut in 2018.

"I look forward to the test, even though it will probably only be on the installation lap," the German told Speed Week.

"I'm curious to see how it affects visibility, because I think of all the tracks to try it, Spa is the most appropriate because it's so up and down here."

On other matters, Hulkenberg seems destined to stay at Force India for 2017, but his teammate Sergio Perez is openly flirting with a switch to Renault.

"Basically, there are only places at Williams and Renault, and no driver has a crystal ball about who will be competitive next year," Hulkenberg said.

"There are so many uncertainties because of the new rules. You can have a feeling, but no-one can really guarantee how it will be. With your own team, you can at least evaluate all of the developments."

Hulkenberg currently sits 10th in the drivers' standings.
