Paul di Resta fastest for Force India in first practice of Canadian Grand Prix

Paul di Resta of Force India finishes the first practice of the Canadian Grand Prix with the fastest time.

Force India have come out on top in the first practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix thanks to Paul di Resta, who clocked the fastest time in North America.

Di Resta was able to secure a time of 1:21.020 on a damp day in Canada, which prevented teams from trialling the revised Pirelli tyres until the end of the session.

The Englishman managed to get around the track on the standard medium tyre, less than a tenth faster than McLaren's Jenson Button.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who expected a tough test due to the long straights and heavy braking areas on the track, secured the 16th quickest time.

Red Bull, who have never won in North America, sent out Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber onto the track with intermediate tyres, but could only finish ninth and 10th quickest respectively.
