Cars turned away at Silverstone

Stewards at the British Grand Prix begin to turn away cars at Silverstone as traffic increases in Northamptonshire.

Formula 1 fans who intend to travel by car to Silverstone today have been advised not to bother after heavy rain disrupted parking at the British Grand Prix.

Stewards in Northamptonshire have already begun to turn away vehicles this morning because of heavy traffic.

A recorded message on the Silverstone switchboard this morning said: "It is with great regret that customers holding Saturday or weekend public car passes should not attempt to approach the circuit today as they will be turned away and could face heavy traffic.

"Please do not attempt to drive to Silverstone today without a ticket. We apologise for all inconvenience."

The third and final practice session is about to get underway before qualifying for tomorrow's race starts at 1pm.
