Wolverhampton Wanderers prevail 4-3 in a friendly with Cadiz as Julen Lopetegui takes a further look at his new side ahead of the resumption of competitive action.

Julen Lopetegui has witnessed his Wolverhampton Wanderers side record a 4-3 victory over Cadiz in a friendly on Wednesday.

Having been appointed as the club's new head coach last month, Lopetegui is currently in the process of assessing his new squad ahead of next week's EFL Cup fourth-round tie with Gillingham.

On the back of last week's draw with Empoli, Wolves were able to defeat La Liga side Cadiz in Marbella, benefitting from two of three own goals which were scored in the match.

Wolves needed just 75 seconds to take the lead, a cross from the left from Rayan Ait-Nouri being turned into his own net by a Cadiz defender.

However, the Spanish outfit were able to get back on level terms in similar circumstances, Toti Gomes sending a header past goalkeeper Matija Sarkic in the 10th minute.

Just after the half-hour mark, Wolves restored their advantage, Nathan Collins the beneficiary as the defender headed home a cross from Joao Moutinho.

The goal glut in the opening 45 minutes was not over, some neat build-up play leading to Daniel Podence producing a clinical finish from the edge of the area.

Lopetegui took the opportunity to make four changes at the break, one of the introductions being Hwang Hee-chan who recently represented South Korea at the World Cup.

However, Cadiz halved the deficit before the hour mark, capitalising on some indecision in the Wolves defensive third before Ruben Alcaraz provided the finish from distance.

With 14 minutes remaining, Wolves re-established their two-goal lead, Goncalo Guedes and Hwang combining before Genar Fornes could only send the ball into his own net from the resulting low cross.

Although that goal effectively put Wolves out of sight, Cadiz netted a further consolation in the closing stages, Alex Fernandez curling a fine effort into the bottom corner.
