Wolves bidding to end 23-game streak in Crystal Palace match, Eagles targeting Premier League record

Wolves bidding to end 23-game streak in Palace match, Eagles targeting PL record

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be bidding to end a 23-game streak when they square off against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

The West Midlands outfit have recently secured their top-flight status for another 12 months, but Vitor Pereira's side travel to Selhurst Park on the back of a two-game losing streak.

Defeats against Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion have been posted without scoring a goal, yet victory in London will secure a minimum of 14th position in the Premier League table.

However, Pereira and his squad travel to the capital with Wolves having lost each of their last four top-flight encounters at this ground.

Furthermore, Wolves possess an unwanted 23-game run ahead of facing opponents who have just lifted the FA Cup, their first-ever major trophy.

What streak do Wolves want to end?

In 23 successive league matches in London, Wolves have failed to keep a clean sheet, with a total of 50 goals being conceded during that period.

Wolves have also lost their final away fixture in each of the previous eight seasons, although it is worth noting that a four-match winning streak on their travels was put together before the loss at Man City.

That said, Wolves are bidding to avoid losing three Premier League encounters without scoring in a row since October 2022.

Although Oliver Glasner admits that he is unsure over whether Palace will be able to reach the levels of Saturday, there are reasons for the Eagles to remain motivated for this contest.

What records can Palace break?

Palace only require a point to reach 50 for the first time ever in the Premier League era; they accumulated 57 points in 1991-92 when the top flight was known as Division One.

Meanwhile, Glasner's side can set the unique record of earning the most points of any side in the Premier League era that failed to win any of their opening eight matches.

Palace can also earn their 22nd win of the season in all competitions on Tuesday; on only one occasion (1990-91) as a top-flight club have they recorded more.

A five-match unbeaten streak has been put together at Selhurst Park, with Palace earning 11 points from that batch of fixtures.
