James McCarthy plays down rumours over Wigan Athletic future

McCarthy dismisses exit talk

Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy has attempted to distance himself from speculation that he could leave the DW Stadium in the summer.

The 22-year-old has been linked with possible moves to Premier League outfits Arsenal and Chelsea, and more recently newly-crowned English champions Manchester United.

"I don't want to talk about speculation," the Irish Independent quotes McCarthy as saying. "The most important thing is to keep Wigan in the Premier League and that is all I am concentrating on.

"I am happy at Wigan, it is a great club to be at. I am learning all the time. Roberto Martinez and the coaching staff have been different class and there are a great bunch of boys at this club."

McCarthy has been a Latics player since 2009.
