Wigan Athletic midfielder Fraser Fyvie praises Latics boss Roberto Martinez for his influence at the club.

Wigan Athletic midfielder Fraser Fyvie has revealed that he is happy with his progress at the Premier League club, despite making just one first-team appearance this season.

The 19-year-old joined the Latics from Aberdeen last summer, but has thus far been restricted to just one League Cup appearance.

However, the teenager is confident that his form in the development team will earn him a place in Roberto Martinez's plans.

He told the Daily Record: "I haven't played all season but I'm learning so much that I didn't know before I went to Wigan. I feel I'm ready now to progress to the next level and break into the team. Everyone knows the style of football Martinez likes to play, which is probably the way every footballer would want to.

"I'm really enjoying it, I just need a chance in the first team and I'll enjoy it even more. Both the James' (McCarthy and McArthur) had to bide their time here. It gets frustrating when you're left out of the squad on a Saturday, but they're great lads and they've told me to be patient. They've said my time will come.

"Every day Roberto passes on advice - it doesn't matter if you're 30 or 19. Most people recognise he's a very good manager. He wants you to do certain things as a footballer and if I can do that I'll get in the team."

Wigan currently sit 18th in the Premier League table.
