West Ham United owner David Gold questions Football Association's appeal system

West Ham United chairman David Gold questions the Football Association's appeal system after Aaron Cresswell's sending-off against Crystal Palace.

West Ham United chairman David Gold has questioned the Football Association's appeal system in the aftermath of Aaron Cresswell's sending-off against Crystal Palace.

Cresswell was harshly dismissed for two yellow cards in the space of a minute and it is widely accepted that at least one of the two incidents did not warrant a booking.

Referee Martin Atkinson cautioned the left-back for simulation in the penalty area, despite replays showing that contact was made by Yohan Cabaye, before a second yellow was handed out after the assistant referee advised Atkinson to book Cresswell for his part in a tussle for the ball with Wilfried Zaha.

FA rules state that a dismissal involving two yellow cards cannot be appealed and that has led to Gold taking to social media to question the logic of the current system.

Earlier on Monday, Gold described the sending-off as "nonsense"
