Jack Wilshere will reportedly spend the next six weeks on the sidelines because of an ankle injury sustained in training last week.

West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere will miss the next six weeks after undergoing surgery on his ankle, according to a report.

The 26-year-old is said to have suffered his latest injury setback during a training session last week when spraining his ankle.

United had hoped that the problem was not serious enough for an operation to be required, but The Guardian claims that the Hammers were left with no other choice.

Wilshere, who missed his side's 3-1 win away to Everton at the weekend, went under the knife on Monday and is now expected to remain on the sidelines until November.

United handed the England international a three-year contract in the summer following the expiration of his Arsenal contract.
