West Ham United to appeal Cheikhou Kouyate's red card

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold confirms that the club will appeal Cheikhou Kouyate's red card, which he received in Sunday's FA Cup win over Blackburn Rovers.

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has confirmed that the club will appeal against the red card issued to Cheikhou Kouyate during Sunday's FA Cup victory over Blackburn Rovers.

In the 75th minute of the Hammers' 5-1 triumph at Ewood Park, the midfielder was given his marching orders for clipping defender Adam Henley.

Referee Jonathan Moss believed that Henley was through on goal when he was fouled, but Gold does not agree with the decision.

He tweeted: "Yes, we will appeal Kouyate's red card, which we believe was a mistake by the referee. The Blackburn player wasn't going to get the ball anyway so he wasn't denied a goalscoring opportunity."

West Ham will face the winner of tonight's match between Shrewsbury Town and Manchester United in the quarter-finals.
