Jay Rodriguez given extension to respond to FA racism charge

Rodriguez given extension to respond to charge

West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez has been granted an extension until March 9 to respond to a Football Association charge of racist abuse aimed at Gaeten Bong.

The 28-year-old was accused of using "abusive and/or insulting words which included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race" during the Baggies' 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion a month ago.

Rodriguez asked for more time to put together evidence after vowing to fight to prove his innocence, and the FA has now given him a further three weeks.

According to the Birmingham Mail, meanwhile, the former Southampton ace plans to hire a lip reader and leading QC as he steps up his fight clear his name.

Speaking last week, West Brom boss Alan Pardew insisted that he has no problems selecting Rodriguez while the striker remains available.
