Tony Pulis expects either Ben Foster or Boaz Myhill to be fit enough to start West Bromwich Albion's league clash with Southampton on Saturday evening.

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has revealed that Ben Foster and Boaz Myhill have both returned to training ahead of Saturday's trip to face Southampton.

The Baggies were facing a goalkeeping crisis for the St Mary's showdown, as first-choice stopper Foster picked up a knee injury last week and replacement Myhill damaged his hamstring when filling in against Leicester City on Monday.

Pulis, reluctant to turn to youngster Alex Palmer from the bench last time out, is optimistic that he will have either Foster or Myhill back to adequate fitness ahead of the trip to the south coast this weekend.

"We've had scans back - [Ben] trained yesterday, Boaz also trained and did a little bit yesterday," he told reporters. "They'll do a little bit more today. We hope one of them will be fit to start, but we don't know which one.

"It's going to be a big 48 hours for us as a team and as a club in respect of the two senior goalkeepers. It's brighter than it was after the game on Monday.

"Is Alex ready? He hasn't played any league football. He's played in a few cup games but he hasn't played any league football. Everyone has to start somewhere but it would be very difficult for him to start in the Premier League because it is what it is."

Albion have conceded nine goals in the top flight this season and find themselves just inside the top half of the table after eight games.
