Half-Time Report: Troy Deeney puts Watford ahead

Troy Deeney puts Watford 1-0 up against Burnley as they look to keep their playoff hopes alive

Troy Deeney has put Watford 1-0 up against Burnley in the Championship this afternoon.

In a close game between the sides in second and 11th, it is Watford who have created more chances as they look to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

After an even start Keith Treacy tested the Watford goalkeeper from long range, before Deeney responded with an excellent effort of his own, firing the ball into the top corner from just outside the box.

Watford's top scorer was involved again 10 minutes later as a similar effort whistled past the post.

The game remained close after that with Ashley Barnes heading over the bar for Burnley after good work from Michael Kightly, before Daniel Pudil fired wide after coming in at the back post with the last real chance of the half.
